When you were younger, if you wanted to get better at your sport, you played your sport more. As you age, that strategy no longer works. You are a Masters athlete now. You’ve got more miles on your body and joints. It takes longer to recover. We get it.

Just because you are older doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to slow down or see your sport performance go down the drain. Most of the decrease in your times/results come from not training smarter, not age!

Becoming a Masters Athlete with Our Strength & Conditioning Classes

As we age, we suffer from the age-related loss of muscle, called sarcopenia. Muscles keep your core tight. Muscles move your body. When was the last time you moved quickly and explosively outside of your sport? We help you train like you were young again, knowing that you aren’t, but helping you regain that spring in your step because sarcopenia is preventable and reversible!

A better strategy is to dial in which weaknesses limit your sports performance and address those first. This will also help reduce potential injuries.

Your sport demands specific abilities from your body, and each sport has unique requirements. To get the most out of your body and your sports performance, our coaches evaluate your sport and your current abilities to prescribe the exercises that will help you improve in your sport. Using this approach has helped our clients move and perform like they are decades younger. Some even say that they are now in the best shape of their lives, even after being collegiate athletes back in the day.

We offer masters athlete training either as personal training or in a small group class. 

How will addressing weaknesses help my performance?

We all have weaknesses. We are also excellent at compensating for these deficits in our abilities. Most people like to train only what they are good at, however this approach will lead to more problems the longer it’s done. 

Want to drive the golf ball farther? Maybe your limitation comes from your shoulder surgery, which limits your back swing and needs some mobilization. 

Have tightness or pain when serving the tennis ball overhead? Maybe it’s a strength deficit in the back of the shoulder. 

By correctly identifying what’s limiting you, you can then address the problem, fix it and get better. That’s what athletes at every level do, regardless of age. Although most masters athletes only perform their sport in the vain hope that they will improve. Let us be your secret weapon to success this season.

A masters athlete is anyone actively participating in a sport or physical activity who is out of high school and collegiate eligibility. 

It doesn’t matter if you are a recreational athlete or a hard-core national masters champion. Our conditioning coaches can help you play, compete, and enjoy your sport/activity at the highest level. 

Building muscle in mid-adulthood is possible, it’s just much harder than when you were in your 20 because of sarcopenia-the age-related loss of muscle. To build muscle, you’ve got to get several factors dialed in, like the intensity of work, frequency of training, consistency, and speed or tempo of work done. Our coaches also help you avoid over-use injuries that frequently occur in sports and as we age.
